Alison Ascott is an artist living and working in St Albans, Hertfordshire and St Ives, Cornwall. She produces a diverse variety of work in a wide range of media including textiles, various paint mediums, inks, collage and printmaking.
Alison has been strongly influenced by the sea and her artistic practice reflects this emotional connection through her use of colour, form and texture. She is particularly moved by the beauty of Cornwall, with its rugged coastline and magical quality of light. On coastal walks she is constantly examining the minutiae within her surroundings and thoughtfully exploring ways to interpret this beauty around her.
Alison's wall hung pieces and sculptural forms convey a sense of place. Within her textile art practice she also likes to create conseptual works that comment on current social, political and environmental themes.
Alison studied Contemporary Design Craft specialising in textiles at the University of Hertfordshire and recieved a BA (Hons) first class degree in 2018.
She studied for her Foundation Diploma in Art and Design at Oaklands College, St Albans where she specialised in textiles, painting and drawing and passed with destinction.
She also achieved a distinction grade in her City and Guilds qualification in life drawing.
